August 7th, 2008 Posted in Other

There is just over one day to go now before the opening ceremonies of the 2008 Olympic Games here in Beijing. International and domestic media outlets are devoting massive amounts of time and resources to covering all aspects of the Games. Foreign dignitaries are arriving and preparing to take part in the opening ceremonies. And the athletes and those connected to the individual events are getting ready to put their best efforts forward. Ni hao, you’re listening to People In the Know, your window into the world around you and your window into the Olympic Games, online at crienglish.com here on China Radio International. In this edition of our show, we’ll be talking to a pair of people involved in the Olympics in a supporting role. So let’s get started.

First, we’ll talk to the Chief Referee for the Badminton events at the Olympic Games here in Beijing. Mr. Dennis Li is the first ever ethnic Chinese person to hold this title at an Olympic Games.

(Dialogue with Li)

And after we take a quick break, we’ll talk to the coach of a Canadian athlete competing here in Beijing.

Ni hao, you’re listening to People In the Know, your window into the world around you and your window into the Olympic Games, online at crienglish.com here on China Radio International. I’m Paul James in Beijing. In this edition of the program we’re talking to people who are playing a supporting role here at the Olympic Games. Joining us on the line now is Mr. Patrick Haynes, coach and fiancée of Canadian shooting athlete Avianna Chao, who was born here in China.

And with that we close out this edition of People In the Know, online at crienglish.com here on China Radio International. During the Olympics, the focus is on the athletes. But ask any of them if they would be here without support, and it’s most likely that all of them would tell you that they wouldn’t be able to fulfill their Olympic dreams without people behind the scenes to support them. Questions or comments for us can be sent to people@cri.com.cn. For Executive Director Zhao Yang, Producer Yang Jingjie and Editor Zhang Ru, I’m Paul James in Beijing. Enjoy the day.
