Box office revenue exceeded 3.3 billion yuan, or more than 470 million US dollars, on the Chinese mainland in 2007, up nearly 27% over 2006, according to the film industry annual report released by the Beijing Film Academy on Thursday.
Home-grown movies account for 46.2% of the mainstream film box office. “Warlords,” directed by Peter Chan and starring Jet Li, was the biggest hit with receipts of 173 million yuan, followed by director Feng Xiaogang’s “Assembly” and Ang Lee’s “Lust, Caution.”
Fifty imported blockbusters brought in a total of 1.5 billion yuan, while “Transformers” took an absolute lead with earnings of 282 million yuan, almost equaling the combined revenues of “Spider-Man 3″ and “Harry Porter and the Order of the Phoenix”.
