John Woo’s “Red Cliff(赤壁)” will be released on the 10th July. The evening of July 4, Tony Leung(梁朝偉), Lin Chi-ling(林志玲), Zhang Zhen(張震), Hu Jun(胡軍) and other actors and directors - shown in Shanghai, Vicki Zhao and Takeshi Kaneshiro absent but still dazzling. During the 40 minutes trailer, Tony Leung plays the Zhou Yu(周瑜), Jin Chengwu plays Zhu Geliang(諸葛亮), give a lot of performances that ambiguous or even the suspicion they are gay. But Tony Leung said that :”Director John Woo’s arrangements”
Red Cliff Plot:
The film is based on events during the Three Kingdoms period in Ancient China, specifically the Battle of Red Cliffs. Director John Woo said in an interview with CCTV-6 that the film will use primarily the historical record Chronicle of the Three Kingdoms as a blueprint, rather than the historical novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms. As such, traditionally vilified characters such as Cao Cao and Zhou Yu will be given a more historically accurate treatment in the film.
