The ABBA tribute band Waterloo will perform at the Majestic Theater in Shanghai on May 20 and 21.

Waterloo calls it the “ABBA the Show” tour and has performed it around the world after starting in 1996 in Stockholm, Sweden.

Original ABBA member Benny Anderson will send his son Ludvig Anderson to Shanghai for the shows. Ludvig Anderson will sing and read a letter from his father.

abba-waterloo.jpgXu Feng, manager of the Majestic Theater, said Waterloo will explain each song in English and there will be a multi-media screening of actual ABBA shows to add reality to the performance.

At least 15 ABBA hits including “Waterloo,” “Dancing Queen,” “King King,” “I Have a Dream,” “Honey, Honey” and “Mamma Mia” will be presented in the 90-minute show.

ABBA was one of the most successful groups in Europe during the 1970s and still sells about 2 million records every year.

ABBA’s songs are familiar to people in Shanghai after the ABBA musical “Mamma Mia” was produced last year at the Shanghai Grand Theater. Tickets for the Waterloo shows are priced from 180 yuan (US$25.71) to 800 yuan.[By Michelle Qiao @ Shanghai Daily]
