A young thief felt so confident of his running ability that he robbed awoman’s cell phone on Tuesday in a downtown residential area in Harbin,Heilongjiang, then ran off down a crowded street.
Hearing the victim’s cries for help, a police officer surnamed Li took offafter the thief. He gained on the thief, who was 200 meters ahead of him.
To the robber’s surprise, he could not shake off the policeman, who caughthim in a 500-meter run.
“I never thought I would be caught,” the robber, surnamed Yu, said.
Later, he was told that the policeman was a champion runner.
