A man surnamed Ding almost lost 17,500 yuan ($2,259) after storing his savings in a plastic garbage bag which was sold to a scrap collector over the weekend in Jiangmen, Guangdong Province.
When Ding, owner of an aquatic farm, returned home on Sunday morning, he was told by his wife the plastic bag was in material sold to a scrap collector.
The couple immediately called the police for help.
After several hours of searching by more than 10 police officers, Ding got back his money that night.
The scrap collector was unaware of what the bag contained.
