Police from the Shenyang Railway Station in Liaoning Province took a65-year-old woman into custody last Thursday after catching her repeatedlystealing railroad equipment such as heavy brake shoes.
The woman, only 1.5 meters high, was found carrying away a bag on her backweighing more than 50 kilograms. She was making a fast escape down the tracksnear the station.
Questioned by police, the woman, surnamed Ge, said she was impoverished andstole to survive.
But a police investigation found that Ge is a retiree living on her pension.”She might have been addicted to stealing. That’s why she was caught twice overthe past three months,” police said.
