Zhao Xiaomei, 57, has a zero tolerance attitude to her job as security guard. There have been no crimes on her watch for 15 years.
Zhao, from Zhengzhou in Henan Province, earns just 330 yuan ($44) a month but has won the respect of the 880 residents on her estate, near busy Xili Road.
In addition to patrolling the estate every 10 minutes, Zhao is careful whom she lets in to park. Her other jobs are collecting parking and sanitary fees.
The housing estate has not had a case of theft, injury or murder in 15 years.
