A middle-aged woman surnamed Chen almost died after swallowing seven fake banknotes in Enping of Guangdong Province over the weekend.
Law enforcement personnel were investigating Chen for using fake banknotes at a local agricultural bazaar, when she swallowed the bogus money, which stuck in her throat.
Chen was immediately sent to a nearby hospital where doctors said she would have died if she could not receive treatment on time.
