Two thieves phoned 110 and turned themselves over to police after accidentally activating the alarm system in Xiangdai Housing Estate in Haikou of Hainan Province on Monday night.
The thieves, surnamed Zhao and Lan, hid on a balcony on the building’s seventh floor when police and residents arrived on the scene to search for them at 9:30 pm.
The two had activated the concealed alarm after stealing two cell phones and some cash from an apartment. Xiangdai Housing Estate is one of many housing developments, hotels, restaurants, cinemas and other entertainment venues that have installed concealed alarm systems under the Longhua Branch of the Haikou Bureau of Public Security.
