Xu Qing, 33, a successful Chongqing businessman, had a big apartment and morethan 1 million yuan ($131,579) in the bank.
But in May 2004, Xu, a dealer in building materials, discovered his wife washaving an affair with a pickpocket.
Unable to persuade her to end the relationship, Xu thought his wife mightthink stealing was exciting. To win her back, Xu started stealing to prove hewas more capable than the pickpocket. From March 2005 to November 2006, he stole176,000 yuan ($23,158) worth of steel bars, washing machines, detergent,motorcycles, television sets, wine and drugs until he was finally caught bypolice.
