An ancient banyan tree in Guangzhou’s Haizhu District is the summer home for a traveling library.
Residents in a nearby housing estate were already using the banyan’s shade for conversation, mahjong, poker and chess.
With the arrival of the library set up by the local neighborhood committee, some of the banyan regulars are switching from chatting and gambling to reading.
