A young women attempted suicide for running up debts for a weight-loss program.
The woman, surnamed Yiu, 20, is said to be the ideal weight but insisted she was too fat. In April, she joined a HK$16,000 ($2,051) slimming program and spent another HK$28,600 ($3,666) on related beauty and health products. With no regular job, Yiu borrowed the money from a finance company.
Calls demanding repayment started coming in May. On Monday, her mother was shocked to see Yiu kneel in front of her with her wrists slit. Yiu is now in stable condition after hospital treatment.
