Former singer-songwriter Tong Kong was arrested for murdering a man on Thursday in Sanya in southern Chinese island Province of Hainan.
The victim, surnamed Zhou, was the general manager of a property management company in charge of the residential district where Tong Kong had an apartment, a local newspaper reported.
Eyewitnesses told Hainan Special Zone News that Tong Kong came into the office of the property management company at around 10:30 in the morning and made defiant remarks on Zhou, who was absent at that time.
About five minutes later, Zhou appeared in the office. Tong took out a small knife and stabbed him. The attempt didn’t hurt due to a bended blade. Zhou warned to call the police and then Tong left.
At about 10:44, Zhou walked out of the office to a security booth in the district. Tong came by again and cut Zhou’s neck with a sharp kitchen knife from behind.
Police soon arrived and took Tong away. Zhou died on the way to the hospital as both his artery and windpipe were cut open.
A worker in the residential district said Tong bought an apartment of about one-hundred square meters in 2005 as a vacation house and lives there once in a while. Zhou was a gentle person and no one knew of any conflict between them.
Tong Kong, in his 40s, was born in east China’s Anhui province and emerged in the music scene in the 1980s as a rock singer, using his true name Zhang Haibo. He signed Taiwan’s music label Ufomusic in 1994 and wrote for many pop singers including A-Mei Chang and Tanya Tsai. He has quit the music industry in recent years but is, as reported, stilling writing songs.[by evodrift]
