36-year-old Hong Kong actress Gigi Lai’s younger brother, Stephen, has been seriously wounded as the taxi he was traveling home in was hit by another taxi that was carrying no passengers.
Stephen was thrown out of the taxi and hit his head on a roadside stone platform. Witnesses said his business suit was stained with blood as he was taken to a local hospital.
There is some doubt whether Stephen was wearing a safety belt.
CCTV reports the two taxi drivers involved, however, were uninjured. Police carried out alcohol breath testing on both of them, but these later showed they were not drunk.
Gigi Lai, who was due to be shooting a TV play outside Hong Kong, returned and went directly to the Hong Kong hospital after hearing the news of Stephen’s accident.
Wearing sun glasses and a mask, she looked depressed and failed to answer questions from reporters waiting at the hospital.
Born into a family of artists, 31-year-old Stephen is a famous dermatologist. He is single, but had reportedly engaged in love affairs with Hong Kong actress Cecilia Cheung, who announced she was madly in love with Hong Kong based singer and actor Nicolas Tse.
