Maja Salvadors showbiz career has been a see-saw ride in the positive sense. Whenever she finishes a TV drama series, up goes her movie career with a film project. Then afterwards, her TV life would blossom again after her films release. And she calls her careers movement a balanced one which is why shes one of the most sought up young actresses nowadays!
Her first big break was in the drama series “It Might Be You” followed by the series on paranormals “Spirits.” She was then cast by Chito Roo, “Spirits” director in the box-office hit horror-flick “Sukob.” After the said movie, she was again back in television with Judy Ann Santos and Piolo Pascuals “Sa Piling Mo,” and then came “First Day High.”
At the moment, Maja is busy with her guest appearances in different ABSCBN shows. On March 9, she will be in “Maalaala Mo Kaya” with Dawn Zulueta. She also has another MMK episode to air soon with John Wayne Sace and Erich Gonzales.
While in the works is a movie with Ryan Agoncillo under Regal Films which is said to be shot come April, her second “Love Spell” episode entitled “Shoes Ko Po, Shoes Ko Day” airs this afternoon after “Your Song” and all it will show all Sunday afternoons of March.
The latest “Love Spell” will feature the lovebirds of Ultimate Dance 4 (UD4) Shaina Magdayao and Rayver Cruz and Majas partner John Prats. While they supply the moves to the grooves of the said episode, the likes of Cheena and Pokwang are bringing in the comedy. Also in the cast are Amy Perez, Jason Gainza, Isabel Blasi and Tess Antonio. “Shoes Ko Po, Shoes Ko Day” is directed by Erick C. Salud.
The story is about a fairy who disguised herself to be a party girl. When she tried befriending her dance idols Joanne (Maja) and Dianne (Shaina), she was dismayed by her idols by attitude problem. Angry, she hexed them that they lose their beauty. The only way for them to access beauty and love is through the pair of enchanted dance shoes she left for them.
“I know viewers will enjoy Love Spell because its funny and its about love,” expressed Maja. Other than its plot, what Maja is looking forward to are the dance scenes wherein she could showcase her dancing talent which she has grown to be known for.
Below is a casual interview with Maja on her career, goals and posing sexy.
WS: You have been pegged to be one of the most promising young actresses around because youre good in acting, does that pose any pressure What do you feel when people point out that youre a good actress
MS: “Im very flattered and happy because that means that the hard work I invest in every role I do is paying off and its appreciated. Im the type who will work more and better every time I get positive remarks about my work, the more Im driven. Even if I hear negative criticisms I still make it a point to do better the next time around. It makes me feel good.”
How do you keep your feet planted on the ground knowing that youre a good actress
“Youre head shouldnt swell from the good things you hear about yourself because in a snap everything can disappear. For me, the better thing to do is put importance in your job and be contented with what you have. Im grateful too that a lot of people are guiding me like my manager Chit Ramos and her sister Ethel Ramos.”
Youve worked with Vilma Santos and Dawn Zulueta, who are the other big named stars that youd like to work with someday
“I want to work with Sharon Cuneta and Maricel Soriano someday. And if possible even Nora Aunor. I also want to work with Christopher de Leon. When you are working with very good actors, I feel you also have to be a good one and youre forced to really show off your talent in acting.”
Youre years younger than your love team and dance partner John Prats, what have you learned from him
“John has a baby face so he doesnt look really older than I am (smiles). He is my love team when it comes to dancing especially now for the UD4 album and our new show Love Spell. I learned a lot from John. He is fun to be with at work. He always tells me to enjoy whatever comes to me. And that you have to take good care of your career. He is a good influence to me.”
Looking back, you started in showbiz searching for your father whom you havent seen for seven years. Now that you met him already, how are things between you and your father
“I still dont see him as often nowadays because of work. But whenever Im free I take him shopping. If I have extra income I also share with him because even if people know he didnt take care of me, he is still my father. He is still my responsibility.”
Im just wondering why you never got mad at him
“I dont know. I didnt grow up with him and I dont see him often so I dont see the point why I should be angry at him. What I want whenever were together is to have a bonding moment because I want to make the most of our time together.”
What do you enjoy most with your father
“(Chuckles) I enjoy his stories about his wives. Its really funny. He also shared that when I was a kid we watched a Ginebra game before.”
Knowing about your father, did it scare you that you would marry a womanizer too in the future
“At first yes. But its still early to think about married life. For me marriage is important. Its scary if it doesnt work because I came from a broken family. And I dont want that to happen to me.”
At 18, what was the predominant change youve notice on you
“A lot has changed. Ive appreciated my life more. Before showbiz I was just riding the jeep. Now I have my own van. Before we dont have money. Now I can buy the things I like like a brand new pair of sneakers. I used to be very childish. But now Im more of an ate and nanay at home. Ive become a stronger person who can stand-up and fight for myself. And Im more prepared for whatever will happen to me.”
Youre one of the prettiest young actresses in town. Now that youre 18 years old, will you agree to be a cover of any mens magazine
“Watch out this April because Ill be endorsing a brand of clothes. And thats the sexiest I can go wearing shortshorts because its for summer.”
So why not pose for a mens magazine
“Its enough for me that the public sees me acting. Im a very private person and I respect so much my being a woman. Im not saying that when youre in a mens magazine you lose self-respect. I also like to maintain the mystery in Maja Salvador. Besides there are still a lot of things you could do to help your career go up.”
Youve been known to play roles older than you actually are. Now that youre 18, are we seeing you anytime soon in a kissing scene
“I dont think I can. Before, just having a pretend kissing scene gets me jittery because of the possibility of making a mistake. Im not yet prepared for such scenes especially because I dont want the public to see me in another image than what I have now, a wholesome and sweet image bed scene will only happen in my married life.”
What are you working on right now
“I want to have my own house. Now that Im getting a lot of commercial projects Im looking for a lot to buy. Im endorsing the feminine wash Fresher right now and there are other body products coming in too.”[by diopatra]
