Since Sammi’s ‘archrival’ Miriam joined East Asia, reports have circulated on Sammi going back to work to fight off this challenge. She has, in recent times, gone to Canada for a show, released a new song ‘Long Live Love’ and also announced her upcoming concert in May. However, just as she increased her exposure in the public eye, Sammi also chose to give East Asia’s CNY Celebrations a miss last night, leaving Miriam to bask in the limelight.
Sammi’s good friend Hocc was asked about her conspicuous absence, to which Hocc replied, “That’s usual! Like all the gossip magazines write, she likes to keep to herself, she’s shy and she doesn’t go to places with a lot of people!” Since Sammi volunteered to guest at Hocc’s concert in October, reporters were curious as to whether she would return the favour at Sammi’s May Concert. Hocc said, “I’ve told her that she only needs to ask and I’ll help in whatever way she wants me to. As for being a guest, they haven’t discussed in detail the concert rundown, so I really don’t know. Anyway even if they ask me to be the tea lady backstage I am more than willing to do that!”
As for Miriam Yeung, she was also asked about Sammi’s absence and she clarified, “This is my first year attending and I didn’t know who was coming and who wasn’t. What I know is that Sammi is absent not because of me. When we were in Canada, we had a great time together!” She also denied that Eric Tsang sided with her instead of Sammi, explaining, “It’s just that I sat in the same car with Eric while Sammi took another car with her manager.” Miriam went on to praise Sammi, saying that she was a great singer and if Miriam was in HK in May, she would definitely attend Sammi’s concert.
Sammi’s manager Wallace Kwok was quizzed over the same matter and he said, “Sammi doesn’t like to be in crowded places because the air can get congested. I am not worried that Sammi will be said to be avoiding Miriam, they had dinner together in Canada! Anyway even if Sammi attended, the people would still find something to say, so we can just avoid giving the opportunity for people to create rumours!” Wallace also told reporters that he had explained Sammi’s absence to Peter Lam.
Peter Lam, however, had a different story. He said that because Sammi had spent some time overnight in the recording studio, so he told her not to attend. Richie Jen also dismissed rumours that Sammi and Miriam were at odds with each other, saying, “When we gathered in Canada earlier, they were drinking and chatting, and everyone enjoyed themselves!
