China’s biggest annual awards event for Internet media, the Sina-Aokang Internet Awards, has taken place in Beijing.

2006’s hottest topics, news and people, from the arenas of blogging, sports, media, culture and showbiz, were honored during the ceremony held on Wednesday night in Beijing.

As a booming media in 2006, the blog awards were the first to be unveiled during the ceremony. The best celebrity blog award went to media mogul Hong Huang. Having received over one million hits in less than five months, Xiang Wenbo, executive president of heavy machinery maker Sany Corp, was honoured as best business blogger. Hou She boys, famous for their funny lip-sync show, became China’s best podcasters. The best grassroots blog award was given to a blogger nicknamed Jidi Yangguang (polar sunshine). The best gaming blog award was granted to Ding Beili.

In sports, the Chinese National Gymnastics Team received the annual Sports Contribution Award for their outstanding performances during last year’s Asian Games and World Gymnastics Championships.

Chinese tennis duo Zheng Jie and Yan Zi received the annual achievement award for individual athletes.

The Shanghai-based Oriental TV station was chosen as TV station of the year for its successful innovation with reality shows “Let’s Shake It” and “My Hero”.

Famous Chinese scholar Yi Zhongtian, who shot to fame in popular cultural TV program “The Lecture Room”, was awarded Cultural Person of the year. And writer Su Tong received the prize for best writer of the year.

The awards in the showbiz field were no doubt the most remarkable. The 2006 Entertainer Award was given to famous crosstalk actor Guo Degang.

Jia Zhangke, the 2006 Golden Lion director winner, received the best director award.

Taiwan pop king Jay Chou’s music album “Still Fantasy” was chosen as best album of the year.

The best film actor and actress awards were given to star couple Carina Lau and Tony Leung. Best movie was “Crazy Stone”, the low budget Warner Bros. Film.

Martial arts TV series “My Own Swordsman” or “Wu Lin Wai Zhuan” became the best martial arts TV drama of the year, with its leading actress Yan Ni receiving the best TV actress award. TV series “Conspiracy” or “An Suan” was awarded the best TV drama of the year, with the leading actor Liu Yunlong receiving the best TV actor award.

First held in 2004, the event is the foremost annual awards event for Internet media in China. All of the awards were selected according to the votes of Internet users. [by stephanieshieh]
