British comedian Ricky Gervais stars alongside US actor Greg Kinnear in a new supernatural romantic comedy Ghost Town.

In the film Gervais plays a misanthropic Manhattan dentist called Betram Pincus who has a near-death experience which leaves him with the ability to see ghosts.

Kinnear co-stars as Frank Herlihy who plays a scheming adulterer both in life and death.

His character promises Pincus that he can make all the troublesome ghosts he sees go away forever providing he breaks up the impending remarriage of his widow, played by Tea Leoni.

The film is co-written and directed by David Koepp. He said: “I don’t believe in ghosts, but I believe fervently in ghost stories.”

Koepp’s favourite ghost stories are: the 1930s and 1940s supernatural fantasies, Topper, Blithe Spirit and The Ghost and Mrs Muir.
