Grange Hill’s final curtain call

September 16th, 2008 Posted in World Showbiz News

The last ever episode of Grange Hill will be screened later.

The school-based drama, first shown in 1978, tackled social issues such as drugs and teenage pregnancy over the years.

But it was axed after TV bosses said it was no longer relevant to the lives of modern children.

The final series has focused on the school’s younger pupils, rather than teenagers.

Grange Hill creator Phil Redmond said that the drama had lost its hard-hitting purpose and that it was “time to hang up its mortar board”.

The final episode will feature a guest appearance from original cast member Todd Carty, who played Tucker Jenkins.
