Heath Ledger “one of the greatest villains you’ve ever seen”, is “Oscar-worthy”
An Oscar buzz surrounded Heath Ledger as his fellow actors backed him for a posthumous award for his portrayal of the Joker in the latest Batman film.
Sir Michael Caine told reporters at The Dark Knight premiere in New York he would be “very surprised” if Ledger did not win an Oscar for playing “one of the greatest villains you’ve ever seen”.
He added: “If he were alive, this would have blown him into the stratosphere.”
The late star was also nominated for an Oscar for Brokeback Mountain and Batman co-star Christian Bale said, “[Heath’s] the best thing about the movie.”
A black carpet was in place outside the cinema in New York in Ledger’s honour and his co-stars lined up to pay their tributes.
Meanwhile, Australian lawyers have claimed Heath Ledger’s daughter Matilda Rose is entitled to the majority of his £10 million fortune.
The two-year-old, who lives in New York with her mother actress Michelle Williams, was not born when Ledger drew up the document and does not appear on his will.
The document currently divides the star’s wealth between his parents and three sisters.
