Winning the Nationwide Mercury Prize last week has boosted guitar band Elbow into the top ten with their album The Seldom Seen Kid according to the Official Charts Company.

The band’s fourth album was at number 61 last week, before the ceremony and has now jumped to number seven in the charts, based on sales.

It is also the best-selling album on both Amazon and iTunes in the UK.

Elbow beat 11 other acts to take away the pretigious prize for album of the year, squeezing out Radiohead, Adele, Estelle, Burial and The Last Shadow Puppets.

Accepting the award, singer Guy Garvey said it was “quite literally the best thing that’s ever happened to us”.

Metallica’s 12th album Death Magnetic has entered the charts at number one with Glasvegas coming in second with their self-titled album.
