Pacino and De Niro righteously reunited
Robert De Niro and Al Pacino could work together again soon, the actors revealed at the London premiere of thriller Righteous Kill.
De Niro said: “I wish we’d done it sooner and I hope it won’t take this long for us to do another project. I’d hope we’d do another one or two more at least, we’ve always had a great respect for each other.”
The two screen titans have both won Oscars - De Niro for Best Actor in Raging Bull and Best Actor in a Supporting Role for The Godfather: Part 2 and Pacino as Best Actor in Scent of a Woman.
However, they have only acted opposite each other once, in 1995’s Heat - not nearly often enough for their legions of fans. But Pacino, who famously played Michael Corleone in The Godfather, said it was the quality of the script that brought the two together after the hiatus.
He said: “Robert was reading the script and said, ‘how about Al for this other role?’ and the director said, ‘let’s give it a try’ and they sent me the script and I thought that this would be a really great opportunity to work with Robert.”
Directed by Jon Avnet, Righteous Kill sees De Niro and Pacino play veteran New York detectives who are racing to uncover the identity of a serial killer they suspect to be a cop.
