Public premiere of Bond film at festival
A film festival is to show the first public screening of the new James Bond movie Quantum Of Solace.
Bond’s 22nd adventure will be shown at The Times BFI 52nd London Film Festival immediately after the film’s world premiere on October 29.
The opening night film, Ron Howard’s Frost/Nixon is one of the festival’s 15 world premieres, while the closing night gala sees the European premiere of Danny Boyle’s Slumdog Millionaire.
The festival’s guestlist includes Gwyneth Paltrow, Penelope Cruz, Jessica Biel, Colin Firth, Omar Sharif, Liam Neeson and Michael Sheen.
The Times editor James Harding said: “The London Film Festival has a breathtaking schedule that mixes films from those new to the scene, as well as great offerings from established film makers.”
Film London, the capital’s film and media agency, in conjunction with the Mayor of London and the London Development Agency, is providing more than 160,000 of support for the festival.
Mayor of London Boris Johnson said: “London’s film industry is a real success story - with over 70 per cent of all UK filming taking place in the capital, it is now one of the busiest production cities in the world.
“Even in these economically challenging times, movie making here is on an upward trajectory and 2007 saw an increase of filming in the capital by almost ten per cent.”
The festival runs from October 15 to October 30.
