Ritchie’s gangster film tops charts

Guy Ritchie is back on form with his latest gangster flick shooting to the top of the UK box office charts.

RocknRolla, which premiered last week, opened at number one in the film charts and bought in 1,562,017.

The gangster movie, starring Gerard Butler, Thandie Newton, Gemma Arterton and Tom Wilkinson, is set in London and deals with a Russian real estate scam.

Ritchie, 39, became a household name after directing Lock, Stock And Two Smoking Barrels ten years ago.

Rocknrolla has been described as a return to form by some critics following the disappointments of Swept Away and Revolver.

Last week Madonna joined her husband on the red carpet for the opening of RocknRolla, which may be turned into a trilogy.

“If people go and see this and like it, I’ll make the second one straight-away,” Ritchie said at the premiere.
