Star Wars creator George Lucas walked up the red carpet with the actors who provided voices for the characters in the animated feature.

Newcomers Matt Lanter, who voices Anakin, and Ashley Eckstein, who plays Anakin’s new Padawan learner Ahsoka, were thrilled to join the Star Wars family.

“It’s really cool to be part of Star Wars history now. It’s mind-blowing,” Matt said.

“To be Anakin is hard shoes to fill. To me, Anakin is Star Wars - it’s the whole saga.”

Ashley agreed, saying: “It’s a dream come true that they’ve introduced this new character. Ahsoka brings some girl power to Star Wars.

“I have to pinch myself, I keep thinking I’m going to wake up at any moment so I feel very blessed. I used to watch the movies when I was a kid with my brother and I used to pretend I was R2-D2.”

And for Catherine Taber, who provides the voice of Padme, this role was a dream come true.

“I’m a big Star Wars fan and I love Padme, so to have the chance to bring her to life is really exciting. Because I’m a Star Wars fan, I understand the universe and I love it,” she admitted.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars is out in UK cinemas on August 15.
