Stars to battle it out in TV awards
Some of Britain’s best-loved TV stars have lit up the red carpet for an awards ceremony.
Famous faces from the nation’s favourite soaps, dramas and reality television shows will be battling it out to win a prize at the TVQuick and TVChoice Awards, held at London’s Dorchester Hotel.
Best Soap Actress nominee Charlotte Bellamy, who swapped the Emmerdale countryside for the chandeliers of the Dorchester, said: "These awards are just an appreciation of the work you do during the year, the early mornings and the late nights. It feels like you are at a party where you think you know everyone, but you don’t."
TV presenters Ant and Dec, who are back in the UK fresh from a stint on US TV, are nominated in three different categories for their shows Ant And Dec’s Saturday Takeaway, Britain’s Got Talent and I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!
Declan Donnelly said: "It’s nice to be back. We’ve been spending a lot of time in America, we’ve been a bit anonymous out there."
Donnelly also revealed that the pair’s strong Newcastle accents had received some interesting reactions in the US.
"It’s been fine, everybody was a little bit nervous about it. Everyone thinks we’re from Scotland, but that’s OK, we had fun out there."
Coleen Nolan, up for the hotly contested Best Daytime Show Award with ITV’s Loose Women, said that she was positive about the state of British television.
"It’s going through a hard time, especially ITV financially, and there’s a lot of reality shows - some of which are brilliant, some of which are awful, but I’m a TV addict, I just love telly."
Nolan admitted that she and her Loose Women colleagues would be quaffing champagne whatever the outcome of their category. She said: "We don’t get out often and when we do we really go for it."
