“Step Brothers” tops box office chart
LONDON (Reuters) - “Step Brothers”, a tale of two men acting like children, emerged as Britain’s top box office performer after its opening weekend, just keeping Abba movie “Mamma Mia!” down in second spot.
Starring Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly as 40-ish losers who still live at home and have to get on when their respective parents marry, “Step Brothers” took 1.7 million pounds, according to Screen International.
“Mamma Mia!” was unchanged at No. 2, taking just enough to hold off the challenge of newcomer “The Strangers”, with Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman as a young couple arriving at a spooky country getaway after a friend’s wedding.
Last week’s chart-topper, “Hellboy II: The Golden Army”, with Ron Perlman as a cigar-chomping demon, was down at four while Batman sequel “The Dark Knight” slipped one place to five.
Spy spoof “Get Smart”, starring Steve Carell, a remake of the classic television show, fell three places to No. 6.
“Babylon A.D.” was new at seven with Vin Diesel as a mercenary in post-apocalyptic Russia, while spy-cum-hairdresser comedy “You Don’t Mess With The Zohan” was down at eight from five.
Teen comedy “Wild Child”, featuring Emma Roberts as a spoilt Californian brat in an English boarding school, was down two at nine, with “Wall-E” the robot down two at 10.
