Verve served number one in charts

The Verve have gone straight in at the top of the album chart, more than a decade after their last album release.

Their album, Forth, recorded after the band reformed last year following a split at the height of their success, knocked Irish three-piece The Script off the number one spot.

This is the band’s second number one album, after Urban Hymns became the fifth fastest-selling British album on its release in 1997, The Official Charts Company said.

In the singles’ chart, American former gospel singer Katy Perry holds on to her number one spot for the fourth week running with I Kissed A Girl.

Highest new entry at number two is Eric Prydz’s single Pjanoo, pushing The Script down two places to number four with their song, The Man Who Can’t Be Moved.

Rihanna moves up one place to number three with Disturbia, while last week’s new entry, Scottish rockers Biffy Clyro, rise five places to number five with their single Mountains.

And, despite their success in the album chart, The Verve’s single, Love Is Noise, drops two places, from seven to nine.

There is also a new entry in the top 20 for Scottish band Glasvegas with their single Daddy’s Gone.

Highest climber of the week is Disney star, Miley Cyrus, who moves up 31 places from 54 to 23 with her song See You Again.
